10 Perfect Places for a Girls Getaway in Florida

Originally published in 2019, this post was updated in November 2021.

A girls getaway – whether for a bachelorette party or kid-free vacay – is really good for the soul. Girlfriends are some of the greatest therapists and giving yourself time away with just girls is something that every female should do.

The world got shaken up over the last year, but luckily, Florida is still open for travel! If you’re looking for a girls getaway in Florida, know that the hospitality industry has been doing an amazing job to make everyone feel safe. From extra sanitizing protocols to encouraging masks indoors, it’s about as “normal” as it gets right now.

You’ll notice that nearly every single destination on this list is located on the coast. After all, the beaches here are some of the best in the world. If you’re planning a girls getaway in Florida, sunshine, and saltwater are two of the best things that the state has to offer.

1. Amelia Island

Amelia Island is one of the most versatile destinations in Florida. Let me put it this way. I’ve traveled to Amelia Island Plantation dozens of times from childhood to adulthood, and I love it every time. No matter what you enjoy, Amelia Island probably has something for you.

Fernandina Beach is a nearby city with small shops, restaurants, and boutique hotels, but we’re big fans of Omni Amelia Island Plantation. On the Plantation is the Omni Resort with all ocean-front rooms. On over 1,300 acres, you could spend the whole weekend without leaving the Plantation. With casual and high-end restaurants, a spa, mini-golf, bike rentals, segway tours, and more, it’s a sweet spot for anyone looking for a laid back weekend.

Where to Stay: Omni Resort, Condos/Houses via Omni (so you have access to all of the Omni’s amenities), or AirBnB. If you’re feeling really fancy, hire a private chef to come to cook in the home for you and the girls. A gorgeous Ritz Carlton Resort is also right up the road from the Plantation.

2. 30A // Rosemary Beach

If you type in #30A on Instagram, you’ll get all the inspiration you need to visit this gem. It’s the only place on this list that I haven’t been to, but my girls and I have talked about going for years. Scenic 30A is actually a two-lane road that runs along the Emerald Coast (Florida’s panhandle). It passes through more than 10 beachside towns, but Rosemary Beach has always caught my eye the most. Rent a home on the beach, ride bikes through the town, and book a sunset cruise. It’s guaranteed to be a girls getaway to remember.

3. New Smyrna Beach

I’m a little bias to New Smyrna Beach. As of last summer, I made this sweet little beach town my homebase! Located south of the “World’s Most Famous Beach” (Daytona), NSB features more of a small-town vibe and family-friendly atmosphere. It’s truly a little gem in Central Florida.

Read the full New Smyrna Beach travel guide here!

Take your pick between beach cruisers or golf carts to get you around town, drive right on the beach, and check out some of the yummiest family-owned restaurants. From beach bars and paddleboarding to quaint boutiques and five-star spas, there’s literally something for everyone.

Where to Stay: Hampton Inn, Black Dolphin Inn, Springhill Suites by Marriott, or AirBnB’s

4. South Beach

If you’re looking for a weekend that’s going to be a little wilder, then South Beach should be your pick for a girls getaway in Florida! I’ve been here multiple times for birthday weekends, bachelorette parties (including my own!) and it is filled with beachy party vibes.

While I used to encourage pool parties and nightclubs, I now suggest private boat days and poolside brunching!  The last time I was in South Beach, my girls and I went on a 58’ boat for a day and it is still one of the coolest things I’ve ever done with my girlfriends. If you’re planning a girls getaway to South Beach, you should hire Flytographer to capture some photos of the trip!

At night, South Beach offers every kind of restaurant you could desire along with plenty of outdoor seating. South Beach is as vibrant and colorful as you imagine.

5. Jupiter Beach

Jupiter Beach is located on the southeast coast of Florida, about 85 miles north of Miami. I remember being sweetly surprised by the stunning colors of the ocean in Jupiter. A gorgeous little beach town, it offers you and your girl’s plenty of things to do.

From private paddleboard tours to the party boat, PonTiki, your days will be filled with sunshine and adventure. Catching a sunrise, sipping on cocktails at Guanabanas, and treating yourself to a French dinner at The Parisian Restaurant and Wine Bar equals the perfect day. 6. St. Augustine

America’s Oldest City is filled with charm and beauty. A walkable little town with plenty of shops, restaurants, and history, this is a popular spot for a girls getaway in Florida. During the day you could visit the biggest masonry fort in the United States (Castillo de San Macros), or visit the St. Augustine Distillery. In the evening, you could go on a ghost tour and hit up a piano bar. If you go, you can’t miss out on the Ice Plant Bar. They have one of the best Moscow Mules I’ve ever had!

Also consider the following for a girls’ trip:
Zion National Park in Utah
Sedona, Arizona
Montauk (the Hamptons) in New York

7. Orlando

If you’re looking for something that will please everyone in the group, Orlando is the perfect place! From Cinderella’s Castle to epic bars like The Edison at Disney Springs, there’s so much to do in Orlando. It’s next to impossible to get bored at Disney World.

We love riding rollercoasters, laying by the resort’s pools, and visiting the latest festival at EPCOT. Universal is an amazing place for a girls getaway, too. (I did it with some girlfriends a couple of years ago). And if theme parks aren’t your thing, just staying at a beautiful resort like JW Marriott Orlando would offer luxury and fun that you can’t resist. Who doesn’t want a lazy river at their hotel!?

Things to do beyond the theme parks in Orlando include Blue Springs, the ICON Orlando, dinner shows, and a ton of great restaurants.

Where to Stay: Disney’s Yacht or Beach Club Resort, Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, Sapphire Falls Resort (Universal), Magical Vacation Homes

8. Clearwater Beach

Clearwater Beach is a beautiful spot to spend the day on a dolphin-watch tour and the evenings watching the sunset on the beach. Wineries and breweries will keep you and the girls entertained if it decides to rain, but you’ll want to be on the fluffy white sand beaches as much as possible. Clearwater Beach continues to rank on all of the “best beaches in America” lists.

Where to Stay: I’m a huge fan of Opal Collection Resorts and I can’t wait to get to Opal Sands Resort or Sandpearl.

9. Sarasota // Longboat Key // Siesta Key

Head a little south on the west coast of Florida and you’ll find these seaside towns. Siesta Key is the party town of these three locations and very walkable. They have great restaurants and even a few casual outdoor bars. Sarasota is a beautiful town with a lot of waterfront dining and great shopping. Longboat Key is just north of Sarasota and I didn’t even know it existed until I stayed at two resorts over there. It’s a quieter spot that’s perfect for boat days and relaxation.

Sarasota is home to the Ringling Museum, the Mote Marine Aquarium, various theaters, and the famous Unconditional Surrender Sculpture. If you have a car, you can stay at any of these locations and spend time in the others during the day.

10. The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys offer everything you need in a girls getaway. Picking which Key to go to can be tricky, but you simply can’t go wrong. From the fishing town of Islamorada to the party streets of Key West, they all have something in common.

Every Key offers pure Florida beauty, stunning sunsets, fresh seafood, and endless water activities. You could find yourself renting scooters and riding down Duval Street in Key West or you could go parasailing in Key Largo. You could snorkel the beautiful waters of Marathon Key or swim with dolphins at Theater of the Sea in Islamorada. A girls getaway in the Florida Keys would be filled with adventure.
